Executive Director (Part time - 25 hours per week)

About MDW Fund: 

MDW Fund is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City, dedicated to empowering women of color entrepreneurs across the U.S. and Canada to scale up their businesses.

Women of color entrepreneurs make $25-$50k in annual revenues on average (for Caucasian women the average is $100-$140k) and fewer than 1% of women of color reach $1 million in annual revenue. MDW Fund is part of changing these statistics through awarding scholarships used for business coaching, mentorship and access to capital.

The MDW Fund awards scholarships to 30-40 women per year, funded by foundations, corporations, and individual donors. Since 2017 we have helped 150+ women of color entrepreneurs gain access to business training, powerful networks, mentors and the capital they need to scale up their businesses. In 2025 we will be doubling our budget and 10x our impact with the support of foundations, corporations and individual donors. We and are seeking the right Executive Director who shares our passion for helping women achieve economic empowerment and enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative team of self-starters.

Position Overview: 

The right person for this position is a dynamic, entrepreneurial and mission-aligned with the MDW Fund. One of our guiding principles is that we need to help bridge the "opportunity gap" so we can level the playing field in entrepreneurship. The Executive Director plays a crucial role in driving our growth and could lead to full-time position within six months, depending on our fundraising outcomes. The Executive Director works directly with Million Dollar Women Fund founder Julia Pimsleur and an engaged board and advisory council to build strategic partnerships, lead fundraising, help amplify the work of our grads, and ensure effective program delivery to support women of color entrepreneurs.

Responsibilities:

  • Executive Director will work from an existing comprehensive fundraising plan with the goal of expanding philanthropic support for the organization and implement fundraising strategies to secure funds from foundations, corporations, and individual donors

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including funders, partners, and community members

  • Event planning in Manhattan and possibly other cities (residing in or close to Manhattan is a plus)

  • Oversee the scholarship program, ensuring efficient distribution of funds and impactful support for women of color business owners

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop organizational goals and strategies

  • Write updates about our work and oversee a social media coordinator

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations, including managing a part time social media assistant, budgeting, reporting, and program evaluation

  • Represent MDW Fund in external events, meetings, conferences to promote our mission and build networks

Qualifications:

  • Live in or near Manhattan (where Million Dollar Women Fund is headquartered)

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master’s in a relevant field

  • 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit management, business or other relevant fields (marketing, etc.)

  • Some fundraising experience

  • Strong communication, email and newsletter writing and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting

  • Facility with online platforms such as Squarespace, Google workspace, Paypal and others

  • Passion for supporting women of color entrepreneurs and advancing economic equity

Details:

  • Days per Week: 3-5 days (some flexibility)

  • Hours: 25 hours broken up as 5x5 or 4 x 6.25

  • Location: Manhattan and remote

  • Employment Type: Part-Time/Contractor

Compensation:

  • $60,000 as a 1099 contractor

  • Could lead to full-time position within six months, depending on our fundraising outcomes
